O Sanjaya, after assembling on the sacred ground of Kurukshetra with the desire to fight, what did my and Pandu’s sons do? Bhagavad Gita karma quotes in Hindi

King Dhritarashtra, besides being blind from birth, was also bereft of spiritual knowledge. Because of his immense attachment to his sons, he had strayed from the path of truth and wanted to usurp the Pandavas’ rightful right to rule. He was well aware of the injustice he had done to his nephews, the Pandava sons. Because of this guilt, he was worried about the outcome of the war. Therefore, Dhritarashtra was seeking information from Sanjaya about the events on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, where the war was to take place.

In this verse, Dhritarashtra asked Sanjaya what he and the Pandava sons did after they assembled on the battlefield. Now it was quite clear that they had assembled on the battlefield for the sole purpose of fighting. Therefore, it was natural that they would fight. Why did Dhritarashtra need to ask what they did on the battlefield?

Dhritarashtra’s use of the words ‘dharma kshetra’, the land of religion, reveals his apprehension. Kurukshetra was a holy land. In the Shatapath Brahmana it is described as ‘Kurukshetra Dev Yajanam’ meaning ‘Kurukshetra is the land of penance for the gods of heaven.’ Therefore, Dharma flourishes on this land. Dhritarashtra was apprehensive that as a result of the influence of the holy Dharma land of Kurukshetra, his sons might develop such a sense of discrimination between right and wrong that they might start thinking that killing their own relatives Pandavas would be wrong and against Dharma and thinking so, they might agree to compromise for peace. Due to such possible apprehensions, Dhritarashtra became extremely disappointed. He started thinking that if his sons accepted the proposal of ceasefire or treaty, then Pandavas would constantly create obstacles in the path of their progress. At the same time, he was also doubtful about the results of the war and wanted to be sure about the bright future of his sons. Therefore, he asked Sanjaya about the activities taking place at the battlefield of Kurukshetra, where the armies of both sides had gathered.
